The Washington Development Industry Council (WDIC) was founded in January 2008 with a mission to increase the size, scope, and scale of certified business enterprises in the real estate development, architecture and engineering and construction industries through sustainable growth. As the premiere source for information about planned and proposed development, A&E and construction opportunities for Certified Business Enterprises (CBEs), the WDIC advocates on behalf of its membership for access to capital, capacity building and workforce development to enable member firms to participate to the greatest extent possible. Its rapidly growing membership includes certified local and small business enterprises, businesses organizations that are comprised of certified small, local businesses and certified minority businesses and other companies that are committed to the development of size, scope and scale among local, small, disadvantaged businesses in the national capital region.
WDIC is a 501 (c) (6) non-profit membership organization dedicated to advancing the performance and profits of certified businesses in the real estate development, architecture and engineering and construction industries. The leadership and membership will be actively engaged in the following activities:

- Continually research and provide general information about long term real estate development, architecture and engineering and construction opportunities (3-7 years) making such information available exclusively to its members.
- Advocate on behalf of its members with the Executive and Legislative branches of the DC Government and Government Corporations.

- Coordinate with government agencies and non-profit organizations to increase the numbers of District residents that are trained for jobs with its members.
- Establish and maintain an interactive member-only website that includes information about real estate development, architecture and engineering and construction contracting opportunities, calendar of events such as classes, seminars and conferences, member to member referral opportunities, and more.
- Meet regularly with members to discuss issues and concerns related to the development of size, scope and scale and help to resolve issues affecting the performance and profits of certified businesses in the real estate development, architecture and engineering and construction industries.
