WDIC Seminar on Proposal Writing for the Public Sector WDIC is pleased to offer a short course specifically focused on proposal writing for firms working in the built environment. This three-session course will provide an overview of the RFP response and proposal development process specifically for public sector projects. Topics that will be covered during the sessions will include: Session One – Starting the Process RFP Analysis – breaking down the requirements, identifying issues and developing a response strategy, go-no go decisions, teaming vs going alone Developing content – developing an outline, prioritizing, creation of initial drafts, critical review, making sure that the message is clear Resumes and project experience – techniques for making sure that the experience of your staff and your firm are presented in a way that really responds to the RFP Where to focus your attention – Identify and highlight differentiators Session Two - Bringing Together the Pieces Standing out in a crowded marketplace – creative use of graphics and page design Expectations when you’re not the prime - Developing content in support of another firm’s proposal – what is really needed and how your “boilerplate” needs to be customized; become the firm that others want to have on their team Cover letters and executive summaries – what they are and what they aren’t Final review – have we met all requirements Planning logistics – pitfalls to completion Each two-hour session will be very lively and interactive – participants are encouraged to share their own experiences in proposal development. Session Three - Individual Meetings Participants have the option of meeting individually with the course instructor to review their current proposal materials. A 30-minute meeting with each participant is included as part of the course fee. Participants will be able to choose a meeting times on Monday, March 8thbetween 1 and 6pm or Tuesday March 9th between 8am and 1pm. Course Instructor The course will be taught by Peter Hansen of Hansen Consulting. He brings over 30 years of experience in proposal development and marketing for engineers, architects and contractors and has been the lead author of numerous proposals for federal agencies including the GSA, DOE, DoD, USACE, and state and local agencies across the country.
